Senior Android Software Engineer
ABOUT THE ROLE
A Series A consumer fintech startup — building a mobile-first personal finance app that helps everyday users manage cash flow, access earned wages early, and build credit — is looking for a Senior Android Software Engineer to join its small, product-focused engineering team in San Francisco.
You'll be a core contributor to the Android app, working closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ship meaningful features that directly impact user happiness and financial wellbeing. The team values pragmatic problem solving, strong craftsmanship, and cross-functional collaboration. Visa sponsorship is available.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, implement, and maintain a consumer-facing Android application used by a growing base of real users
- Contribute to platform-level architecture decisions and help scale the app's foundation
- Collaborate with product and design to shape features and product direction from the ground up
- Work cross-functionally with backend, product, and business teams to deliver end-to-end experiences
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on the Android team
- Pragmatically solve complex engineering challenges in a fast-moving startup environment
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required (Dealbreakers)
- 2+ years of professional experience building and shipping production Android applications
- Strong Kotlin expertise with demonstrated experience using Jetpack Compose and modern app architecture patterns (MVVM or Clean Architecture)
- Experience building consumer-facing mobile applications (not exclusively B2B)
Required Skills
- Proficiency with Android testing strategies — unit tests, instrumentation tests, and UI tests
- Experience maintaining and working with CI/CD pipelines for mobile app development
- Experience integrating Firebase services: Authentication, Firestore/Realtime Database, and Cloud Messaging
- Familiarity with backend data formats and APIs common in mobile apps: protobufs, REST, and gRPC
- Demonstrated mentorship or technical leadership experience guiding junior engineers
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills across product, engineering, and business teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with platform-level Android development and architecture
- Experience contributing to product design and direction decisions
- Familiarity with Dagger Hilt for dependency injection
- Background in fintech, payments, or financial services applications

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary: $160,000 – $200,000 USD annually
- Equity participation in a Series A fintech company
- Visa sponsorship available
LOCATION
This is an on-site role based in San Francisco, CA. Candidates should be prepared to work from the San Francisco office.
