Who we are

Nirvana is on a mission to harness the power of data to revolutionize commercial insurance and enable a safer world. We are bringing much-needed innovation into the legacy, trillion-dollar commercial insurance industry. We have developed cutting-edge predictive models that use real-time IoT data from billions of connected devices, allowing us to better understand and price risk. Our AI-driven platform fundamentally changes the way an insurance company operates with personalized risk scoring, faster underwriting, modernized claims, and proactive, data-driven insights to help customers prevent accidents.

We’ve already proven the scale—serving thousands of fleets and more than doubling our written premiums year over year. Our data moat is growing exponentially with more than 30 billion miles of telematics data, leading to more predictive models and new insights into how we can better understand and reduce risk. Altogether, our loss ratio, efficiency, and customer experience are redefining what can be done in the industry.

With $270+ million raised, including our Series D round in December 2025, we’re only accelerating our growth, with strong support from top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Nirvana’s leadership team has previously helped scale multi-billion-dollar companies from scratch, including Samsara, Rubrik, and Flexport, and includes industry veterans from Hiscox, The Hartford, and RLI.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Cloud Infrastructure Platform team — the team responsible for the foundational systems that help every engineering team at Nirvana build, ship, and operate reliably.

You’ll work across Terraform-based provisioning, our in-house infrastructure management platform, CI/CD on GitHub Actions across a monorepo, internal AI agent tooling across the SDLC, infrastructure security, and platform-wide observability for uptime, reliability, and cost.

This is a hands-on platform engineering role for someone who can independently own moderately complex projects end to end while partnering closely with internal engineering customers. You’ll help evolve our self-serve infrastructure platform, strengthen CI/CD, expand developer productivity tooling, improve reliability and cost visibility, and build secure-by-default paved roads for product teams.

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be expected to break down ambiguous problems, drive execution with minimal guidance, and deliver high-quality systems that scale. Over time, this role can grow into ownership of larger cross-team platform initiatives and beyond.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain core platform capabilities across infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD, internal tooling, and developer productivity.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of moderately complex platform projects, including scoping, design, milestones, implementation, rollout, and iteration.
  • Improve our Terraform-based infrastructure platform and self-serve workflows so engineering teams can move faster with confidence.
  • Strengthen CI/CD reliability, scalability, and developer experience across GitHub Actions and our monorepo.
  • Contribute to in-house AI agent tooling that supports the SDLC, from requirements and implementation through deployment and monitoring.
  • Improve infrastructure security by building secure-by-default patterns, coaching teams, and helping implement technical controls and evidence automation for SOC 2.
  • Build and refine monitoring, alerting, SLIs/SLOs, and cost observability for platform services.
  • Participate in on-call, postmortems, root-cause analysis, and follow-through on reliability improvements.
  • Partner with internal engineering teams as customers: understand needs, design paved roads, drive adoption, and mentor through design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning.

About you

  • You have 5–8 years of backend, infrastructure, platform, DevOps/SRE, or developer-productivity engineering experience.
  • You’ve built and operated infrastructure, internal platforms, or tooling used by other engineering teams.
  • You write production-quality code in Go and/or Python and have strong distributed systems fundamentals.
  • You have hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform or similar IaC, and CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions.
  • You have strong observability, incident management, and operational ownership instincts.
  • You can independently break down ambiguous problems, make pragmatic decisions, and drive projects to completion.
  • You communicate clearly with technical and cross-functional partners and can influence without relying on authority.
  • You are comfortable in high-growth, ambiguous startup environments and bring a strong bias for action.
  • You take ownership of outcomes, learn quickly, and are willing to work across platform and product areas as Nirvana grows.
  • Bonus: experience with Kubernetes, cloud cost optimization, security engineering, IAM, secrets management, supply-chain security, SOC 2/compliance controls, or applied AI/LLM tooling for developer workflows.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and meaningful equity
  • Medical insurance
  • Monthly wellness stipend for anything that gives you joy
  • Hybrid culture and reimbursement for home office equipment
  • Flexible vacation policy and a team that understands building a company is a marathon, not a sprint
  • A culture that gives you the autonomy to do great work and the transparency to make good decisions
