Position Summary

TEGNA is looking for an experienced Java Developer to join our highly collaborative and agile engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and building scalable backend platforms in high-performance environments.

You will work on designing and developing cloud-native applications and distributed systems while collaborating across engineering teams to deliver reliable and innovative solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design and development of backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS.
  • Guide and mentor developers while ensuring best practices in Java, REST APIs, System Design, and Cloud Development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable solutions using AWS, Microservices, and Distributed Systems.
  • Drive application performance, troubleshooting, deployment, and continuous improvements through CI/CD, AWS, and Monitoring Tools.
  • Develop and maintain backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS.
  • Build and support REST APIs, Microservices, and Database Integrations (SQL/RDBMS).
  • Collaborate with engineering, QA, and product teams to deliver high-quality solutions in an Agile environment.
  • Troubleshoot issues and improve application performance, reliability, and scalability using AWS, CI/CD, and Monitoring Tools.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8 to 12+ years of hands-on experience in Java application development with strong expertise in Core Java concepts and scalable system design.
  • Strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices development.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda
  • Good understanding of System Design, Distributed Systems, REST APIs, SQL databases, and backend architecture.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Agile development methodologies and cloud-based applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
