About us. Today, 7 out of 10 people globally lack access to life-saving Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Conventional MRI machines are massive, cost millions of euros, and require specialized, shielded rooms which means they are usually confined to large hospitals. At DeepSpin, we are changing that by building the World’s First Flatbed MRI. Our open-architecture scanner plugs into a standard wall socket, fits into regular doctor's offices, and costs 10x less than conventional systems. Backed by globally leading VCs, we are expanding our team in Berlin.

About Position. You will join as a 6-month Freelancer (Contractor) , with a direct pathway to transition into a permanent full-time position as we scale. As a Senior Medical Software Engineer at DeepSpin, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the front-end and back-end of the MRI machine used by clinical and R&D users to leverage all the capabilities of the system. You will take ownership of high-level interface descriptions — aligning them with internal and external stakeholders, refining them, and driving them through to implementation.
You will contribute to enhancing the performance and reliability of the system and will be responsible for testing and documentation needed for FDA 510(k) certification.
Responsibilities
Develop and test software components for the DeepSpin MRI system Take ownership of high-level interface descriptions: elaborate, specify, and implement interfaces for internal and external stakeholders Critically review and challenge existing interface and system designs, identify weaknesses, and propose well-reasoned alternatives Ask the right questions early — surface ambiguities, unstated assumptions, and edge cases before they become costly problems Drive the translation from prototype to a deployed and cleared/certified product Champion software development best practices Requirements.
g. g. g. g. g. relational vs. NoSQL, queue vs. pub/sub, sync vs. async communication) Good communication skills in English and a collaborative approach to work Preferred: Knowledge of IEC 62304 or other relevant medical device standards Preferred: Experience working in small start-up environments and heterogeneous teams Strong plus: Experience transitioning software from proof-of-concept to certified product Plus: Experience with medical images like DICOM What we offer.
