Mid to Senior Level Localization Engineer
Mid to Senior Localization Engineer for a 12-month contract at TransPerfect, supporting phone, PC, and tablet products. Requires 3-6+ years experience, Python, scripting, CI/CD, and Git.
(L10n) Localization Engineer – Phone, PC & Tablet Seniority: Mid to Senior Level Team: POD Localization / L10n Engineering Contract : 12 months (with potential extension based on performance) Client : A leading multinational telecommunications company Overview As a Localization (L10n) Engineer supporting Phone, PC, and Tablet products, you will ensure our apps and device UI experiences are globally ready across all form factors.
You will own day-to-day localization tooling and workflows, write simple automation wrappers, and independently resolve routine pipeline and tooling issues so localization work is not blocked on other engineering teams. You will work confidently on the command line with Python, Shell / Bash / PowerShell, Jenkins / GitHub Actions, and GitHub / Gerrit, and apply modern AI-assisted engineering practices to deliver faster and with higher quality.
Responsibilities · Prepare, analyze, and process UI strings, app content, and resource files for localization across phone, PC, and tablet products. · Own and operate localization tooling for day-to-day requests — run existing scripts and write thin Python / Shell wrappers where needed. · Build and maintain automation, scripts, and CI/CD pipelines that drive localization workflows end to end. · Author and maintain Jenkins jobs and GitHub Actions workflows for string extraction, validation, builds, and delivery.
· Independently troubleshoot routine failures across CI, client tooling, APIs, and data layers; escalate only when a real design or platform change is needed. · Collaborate closely with linguists, PMs, and platform engineers to integrate localized assets and resolve blockers. · Troubleshoot encoding, formatting, layout, build, and platform-specific issues (Windows, Ubuntu, Android, iOS). · Validate localized builds, layouts, and device displays to ensure correct functionality across languages and locales.
· Use Git from the command line daily — branching, merging, resolving conflicts, and managing GitHub pull requests and/or Gerrit changes. · Apply AI tools and agent-based workflows to accelerate scripting, debugging, and documentation. · Maintain clear documentation for workflows, tools, integrations, and localization standards. · (Senior) Guide L10n engineering standards, mentor team members, and help plan the automation roadmap.
Requirements · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; Master's preferred. · 3–6+ years in localization engineering, software development, or a related technical role (mid-level from 3 years; senior from 5+). · Strong Python scripting skills, including writing thin wrappers around existing tools and CLIs. · Strong Shell / Bash / PowerShell proficiency (hands-on skill will be evaluated).
· Strong Git command-line skills — comfortable with branching, merging, rebasing, and resolving merge conflicts without a GUI. · Experience with GitHub and or Gerrit workflows. · Experience with Jenkins and or GitHub Actions — reading logs, re-running jobs, and diagnosing pipeline failures. · Solid knowledge of localization workflows and file formats (XML, JSON, CSV, YAML). · Experience debugging encoding, layout, file-conversion, or resource-integration issues.
· Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering — awareness of agent workflows, coding assistants, and MCP tooling, and the judgment to use them effectively. · Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to work across multiple teams and systems. Nice to Have · Experience with iOS/Android build processes and common mobile UI behaviors. · Experience with PC software or game development. · Experience mentoring or leading a small engineering team (for senior candidates). Tech Stack & Environment · Languages / Scripting: Python, Shell / Bash, PowerShell.
· Version Control: Git (command-line first), GitHub, Gerrit. · CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions. · Formats: XML, JSON, CSV, YAML. · Platforms / Environments: Windows/PC pipelines, Android, iOS, Ubuntu. · AI Tooling: AI coding assistants, agent workflows, MCP-based tooling. · Project Tools: Jira, Linear, Planner. · Nice to Have: Xcode/Android Studio, mobile simulators, build automation tools, UI testing tools.
